Collectors have embraced early Ford Thunderbirds, but later models haven’t enjoy the same amount of success.

However, there’s a noteworthy one going up for auction next month as it’s a 1985 T-Bird with a mere 6,200 miles (9,978 km) on the odometer.

Given the low mileage, it’s not surprising to learn Mecum’s listing says the car is unrestored and features the original paint, interior, wheels, engine, and transmission. Even the tires are the same ones that were installed at the factory nearly 37 years ago.

The listing is light on specifics, but the car looks to be in remarkable condition for its age. As you can see, the black paint job still shines while the chrome trim and aluminum wheels all appear flawless.

Stepping into the cabin is a trip back in time as drivers will find immaculate cloth seats, a column-mounted shifter, and a cassette player. However, it’s not entirely old school as brochures from the era bragged about the Thunderbird’s “command center” and LED speedometer. This particular model has also been equipped with the optional “electric digital clock” as well as air conditioning and power front seats.

While Ford heavily promoted the car’s turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, this particular model features a 5.0-liter V8. It reportedly produces 140 hp (104 kW / 142 PS) and 250 lb-ft (339 Nm) of torque. That’s nothing compared to the 2021 Mustang Mach 1, which has a 5.0-liter V8 pumping out 480 hp (358 kW /487 PS) and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque.

There’s no auction estimate, but it’s hard to put a price on what is essentially a new, 37 year old car.
