IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) announced the Alpine A4810 concept designed by students in collaboration with Alpine. The hydrogen-powered supercar will debut online on March 18, showcasing the young talent’s vision for the future of the French brand.

A total of 28 students of the Master in Transportation Design course (2020-2021) took part in this thesis project, with input from Alpine’s own design studio in the selection process. The final design is a two-seater supercar fitted with a hydrogen powertrain. IED says that the A4810 concept “represents the extreme sportiness of the future, more technological and more sustainable”. The teaser shows the low and wide stance of the vehicle, with LEDs surrounding the intakes at the front, fenders protruding from the low bonnet, an aerodynamic greenhouse, and thin LED taillights sticking out of the bodywork.

The powertrain type wasn’t randomly chosen as Renault Group has been pretty active on the hydrogen front lately. Renault is already offering light commercial vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells, and recently teased a new concept with a hydrogen engine that will debut in May.

The IED-designed concept may be factory-backed but it will most likely remain a design study, just like similar concepts from the past including the Alfa Romeo Gloria (2013), the Honda Tomo (2019), and the Suzuki Misano (2021).

Alpine is getting ready for a new model roll-out with three new EVs confirmed to become the brand’s all-electric range by 2026. These include the Alpine A5 electric hot hatch based on the Renault 5 supermini, the Alpine GT X-Over grand tourer, and the electric successor of the Alpine A110 sportscar.
