The Aston Martin DB5 is an icon and it’s even cooler when connected to James Bond.

That’s certainly the case with this 1964 Aston Martin DB5, which was personally owned by James Bond himself, Sir Sean Connery.

Set to be offered by Broad Arrow Auctions this August, the car was originally delivered to a Mr. White on July 7th, 1964. It was then bought by Connery through Aston Martin specialist RS Williams.

The listing is light on specifics and notably misidentifies the car as a 1962 DB4, but it says the model is in “highly presentable condition.” Furthermore, it claims that after Connery purchased the car, he had RS Williams give it a “mechanical freshening” as well as a full repainting to its original Snow Shadow Grey color. Since then, it has been “well-maintained and has recently undergone a thorough service and inspection by RS Williams in preparation for the auction.”

While that isn’t much to go on, the car appears to be in excellent condition as the body looks flawless and the chrome shines like new. We can also see a red Connolly leather interior with a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a five-speed manual transmission. The latter is connected to a 4.0-liter straight six developing 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque. Aston Martin notes this allowed the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 7.1 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 142 mph (229 km/h).

The auction is being billed as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as this was the only DB5 personally owned by Connery. His son, Jason, said “Dad used to talk about owning his own DB5, for no other reason than he loved the car, and I think in hindsight it did represent something in his life that was unique and captured a moment in time.”

The car is being sold on behalf of the Connery family and has an auction estimate of between $1.4 – $1.8 (£1.1 – £1.4 / €1.3 – €1.7) million. That’s a lot of dough and a “significant portion” of the proceeds will benefit the Sean Connery Philanthropy Fund.

Interestingly, the winning bidder will be given the opportunity to be driven around in the DB5 by Sir Jackie Stewart. As Broad Arrow Auctions noted, the duo were lifelong friends and “shared a long history of charitable work together dating over four decades, and the Connery family has continued to support the work and commitment of their father to his friend.”
