The 2022 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is almost upon us. Each year it features some of the most important vehicles ever made going toe to toe on the incredible track that is Laguna Seca. To conclude the festivities this year they’re going to turn around participants and kick off the first-ever hillclimb up the infamous Corkscrew.
It’s the first time in the 65-year history of the racetrack that cars will compete in this format. Starting at the normal start/finish line, cars will drive counter-course through turns 11 and 10 before tackling Rainey Curve and then the Corkscrew itself. As they top the famous corner they’ll finish the hillclimb.
Two separate hillclimb sessions will take place ending in a People’s Choice Shootout to determine the overall victor. The goal of the event is to finish off the weekend with a new and relaxed competition that’s a bit less formal than the rest of the races over the weekend.

Motorsports legend Bruce Canepa, the man behind some of the most impressive restomods ever built, is still considering which car he wants to run up the hillclimb. “There are several cars I’m considering entering,” he says. “I’ve raced several times at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, yet doing it at Laguna Seca up the Corkscrew is an unprecedented experience that’s really going to be exciting. I don’t know who will enjoy it more, the drivers or the fans.”
The motorsports reunion will take place from August 17th through the 21st and conclude with the hillclimb and a paddock party. Aside from a number of classic car races, attendees will enjoy events like Cars and Coffee, a Pagani hypercar display, Lexus VIP safety car rides, and a Le Mans Legends Heritage display of first-in-class winners.
Additionally, there will be an open paddock of other historic race cars, food trucks, and live music. Tickets for adults are $35 and entry for those under 15 is free with a paying adult. This event tends to be a blast each year but the allure of seeing a new hillclimb event on the Corkscrew is enough to get us even more excited.
