This story includes independent renderings of a fictional Porsche 944 Turbo RS made by Khyzyl Saleem. They are neither related to nor endorsed by Porsche.

The restomod business is booming, but there are still plenty of interesting models from the past that have yet to be modernized and make a great case for it. Among those is the Porsche 944 which got a digital makeover by independent artist Khyzyl Saleem, featuring a body parts inspired by the brand-new Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

The 944 Turbo RS as the Kyza calls it, incorporates elements from Porsche’s current design language, looking like it’s ready to hit the track. At the front, the pop-up headlights are replaced by modern LEDs on a tinted background. The fresh bumper features sporty intakes, a splitter, and side fins inspired by the new GT3 RS.

The side view is highlighted by the significantly wider front and rear fenders above large-diameter alloy wheels. The aggressive aero theme continues with large fins attached to the side sills. Finally, the redesigned rear end features the most dramatic change with 992-style full-width LED taillights, a large spoiler on the signature rear windscreen, and a massive diffuser with center-mounted dual exhaust pipes.

Khyzyl Saleem’s Porsche 944 Turbo RS is just a digital concept that is not destined for production. Still, we must admit it makes us secretly want to see a sexy modern reinterpretation of the 944 come to life. Some of the artists’ designs have been built in the real world, so we shouldn’t rule out a future build like this.

For those who are not familiar with the history of Porsche’s transaxle era models, the 944 debuted in 1981 as a significantly updated version of the 924. It’s most powerful version was the 944 Turbo S, with a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine producing 247 hp (184 kW / 250 PS). This is far less than the 518 hp (386 kW / 525 PS) coming from the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six of the 992 GT3 RS. However, we guess that a 944 restomod could get a healthy power boost, alongside a modern chassis setup matching the fancy aero. Would you like to see something like this on the road?
