Rolls-Royce is known for building some of the most luxurious vehicles on Earth, but its reach goes far beyond handcrafted V12 engines and star-studded headliners. The brand also offers a curated lineup of ultra-premium accessories, including a leather-wrapped champagne chest, bespoke luggage sets, and even a cigar humidor designed specifically for the Phantom. Now, the company has turned its attention to a different kind of refined leisure activity: chess.

The new chess set, available exclusively through Rolls-Royce showrooms and its Private Office boutiques, is centered around a leather-wrapped base that curves upward from the center. The design is intended to evoke the signature “waft lines” seen in the marque’s cars, bringing a subtle nod to its automotive roots.

While chess is best played on a stable surface, Rolls-Royce’s chess set has magnets hidden under the playing surface and on the pieces themselves. In theory, that means you could play chess while sitting in the back of a Cullinan, on a yacht, or perhaps even on a private jet, without worrying about the pieces flying around or sliding out of position.

This being a Rolls-Royce product, only the finest materials have been used. It features a grid milled from aluminum while each of the veneer pieces is made from the same wooden log, creating uninterrupted continuity with the grain.

This Rolls-Royce Chess Set Exists Just To Make You Feel Extra Poor

The chess pieces are quite untraditional, adopting a modern aesthetic that’ll probably take some players a little while to get used to. All the pieces are made from ceramic-coated aluminum and have a polished head made from stainless steel. They’ve been designed to replicate the feel of the solid-metal organ stops of its cars. All black pieces have a satin finish, while the white pieces have an iridescent finish.

As with any Rolls-Royce product, four-wheels or not, customization is part of the experience. Buyers can choose from 13 different leather colors and four distinct veneer combinations, allowing each set to be tailored to individual taste.

Whether anyone will actually play a full match on one of these remains to be seen. But as with most things Rolls-Royce, owning it might be more about the statement than the game itself.
