A midsize truck from Mazda might not be an option for buyers in North America, but there’s an eye-catching alternative currently up for sale on eBay. What you’re looking at is no ordinary pickup, as this street-legal custom build dates back more than 20 years and was originally created for the SEMA show.

This one-off vehicle began life as a 2002 Mazda Protege5 (also known as the Familia or 323 F) before the model line gave way to the first-generation Mazda3. Officially named the Ballistic Unlimited MazdaSpeed TranSport, it was built for display at the 2005 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Two decades later, it’s resurfaced online in search of a new owner.

Pro Design HotRods handled the conversion, reworking the five-door wagon into a two-door pickup with a bed. The transformation didn’t stop there. The vehicle was fitted with a wide bodykit from DG Motorsports, a fixed rear wing, a custom green paint job accented with orange graphics, and a set of 19-inch alloy wheels. It originally came with neon underglow lighting, although that’s no longer operational.

The interior represents peak ’00s tuning with a custom upholstery that combines gray suede with orange perforated leather. It also features body-colored fiberglass door panels, a Clarion audio system, a set of Cobra Imola racing buckets, and aftermarket gauges on the dashboard.

Under the hood and the carbon engine cover lies a modified version of Mazda’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Upgrades include a new turbocharger, a custom radiator, intercooler, exhaust, and a Nitrous oxide system that takes up most of the available space on the rear bed.

While no specific horsepower figures are listed, power is still sent to the front wheels, consistent with the original Protege5 drivetrain. Supporting upgrades include a coil-over suspension system and Wilwood brakes, rounding out the performance enhancements.

Not Perfect, But Restorable

The seller admits that the car is not in pristine condition and needs some work, but claims it could be easily restored. . Known issues include a fluid leak, fading clearcoat on the hood, and general wear in line with the car’s age. Still, they claim the car could be brought back to form without too much trouble.

The unique Mazda is currently listed on eBay with an asking price of $28,900. For those who find the price steep, the seller is open to offers ahead of the auction’s close on August 26, 2025.
