• Acura will auction the NSX Roadster featured in The Avengers.
  • The model will go under the hammer next year and benefit a charity.
  • The one-off NSX was built from a 1991 model with 252,000 miles.

A number of people have washed their hands clean of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it looks like Acura is doing the same. While the movie franchise is most commonly associated with Audi, Acura vehicles were featured in a number of early films including Thor.

However, their most notable appearance came in The Avengers. The superhero team up was big news and Acura pulled out all the stops by creating a one-off NSX Roadster specifically for the film.

The car featured styling inspired by the second-generation NSX concept and was created by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles. The vehicle was then brought to life by Trans FX in Oxnard, California.

As part of the build, the team found a 1991 NSX with 252,000 miles (405,555 km) on the odometer. It served as the basis for the roadster, which was outfitted with a hand-crafted resin and fiberglass body as well as a lowered suspension, special seats, and stylish 18-inch wheels. The end result was a hit, although it didn’t exactly supercharge NSX sales.

Fast forward to today and Acura has announced plans to auction off the movie car next year. Proceeds will benefit an undisclosed charity and the model will be making an appearance at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on August 15. There, the company will “begin accepting hand raisers … for those interested in getting a chance to bid.”

The company didn’t elaborate, but they’re using Monterey Car Week to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the NSX. Given this, the company will also be displaying a 1995 NSX-R and a 1999 Zanardi Edition. They’ll be joined by the RSX Prototype, which previews their upcoming electric crossover.
