• Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa adds high-downforce aero setup.
  • Developed with the Luna Rossa America’s Cup sailing team.
  • Sparco seats echo flotation vests used by the yacht’s crew.

Alfa Romeo has taken the already unhinged Giulia Quadrifoglio and decided that what it really needed was more carbon fiber, more drama and a weird competitive sailing backstory. The result is the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, a limited run of just 10 cars designed to promote Alfa’s new Bottegafuorisere personalization division.

The big story here is the aero. Alfa says this is the most aerodynamically efficient Quadrifoglio ever built. The front bumper sprouts carbon canards, the underbody gets new profiles to create suction, the side skirts seal the airflow and the rear wing is supposed to look like it escaped from an America’s Cup boat.

It’s inspired by the hydrofoils used on the Luna Rossa racing yacht, flipped upside down to create downforce instead of lift. The result is about 140 kg (309 lbs) of downforce at 186 mph (300 kmh), roughly five times what the regular Giulia Quadrifoglio manages.

Same heart, sharper sound

Power still comes from the familiar twin turbo 2.9 litre V6, good for 513 hp (520 PS) in stock form, but easily capable of pushing out more than 600 hp (608 PS) with a simple aftermarket remap.

A mechanical limited slip differential keeps things tidy without the need for all-wheel drive, while a louder Akrapovic exhaust makes sure nobody mistakes this for a bodykitted Giulia diesel. The idea is not to change the Giulia’s character, Alfa says, but to sharpen it. More grip, more stability, more confidence at very illegal speeds.

The worst of tuner style

Then there are the design ‘improvements,’ and this is where the whole idea starts to take on water in my opinion; you may disagree. The paint is a smart iridescent gray inspired by the color of the Luna Rossa yacht that took part in the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona in 2024. Looks great, very machine-like.

But the black hood section and red door stripe with Luna Rossa wording won’t be to all tastes, and the wheels are awful. It’s like they were once fully red, but someone drove the car for 10 years without ever bothering to wash off the brake dust.

All aboard

Thankfully things get back on an even keel inside where the Sparco bucket seats are trimmed to match the Personal Flotation Devices used by the boat’s crew. The dashboard even includes a thin slice of an actual Luna Rossa sail, though the dash architecture is still the same nearly-decade-old setup that badly needs an overhaul – one it’ll get when Alfa replaces the Giulia in 2027.

Sold out before you blinked

Though prices are undisclosed, all 10 cars are already sold, and it is unclear if any will come to the UK or the US. But maybe news of this project will inspire a few would-be Alfa owners to commission the Bottegafuorisere bespoke crew to create more Quadrifoglio specials. What would yours look like?
