• Nissan’s Japanese X-Trail Rock Creek gets a Multi-Bed edition.
  • It adds a double mattress and hard floor in the cargo area.
  • Rugged add-ons like the Sotoasobi pack are available options.

Nissan has introduced a new version of the X-Trail in Japan that turns the SUV into a makeshift bedroom on wheels. Aimed at drivers who want to take their adventures off-grid, the new Multi-Bed model builds on the rugged Rock Creek trim of the Rogue’s Japanese twin and adds a few clever features designed for practicality and weekend escapism.

This release follows a mid-cycle update to the Japanese-market X-Trail and reflects what Nissan calls a growing interest in “sleeping in cars.” The automaker has already rolled out similar Multi-Bed conversions for several of its minivans, including the Caravan, Vanette, and Serena. This, however, is the first time the treatment has made its way into an SUV.

Bed-Ready in Minutes

The highlight of the package is the double mattress that can be deployed above the cargo area and the folded rear bench. The bed is made of a water-repellent material called Cordura, and features lava red stitching to match the seat upholstery of the X-Trail Rock Creek.

When not in use, the mattress breaks down to pieces and can be stored in the boot, still leaving room underneath for luggage. Furthermore, the cargo area is covered by a hard floor panel that can be optionally combined with a rubber matt.

Overall, the X-Trail Multi-Bed may not match the Caravan MyRoom for sheer comfort, but it seems more than capable as a tough, family-friendly SUV you can sleep in.

Adding More Bite to the Look

For buyers who want to lean further into the SUV’s outdoorsy look, Nissan offers the Sotoasobi package. It adds a matte black hood, bolt-on fender extensions, and unique badging.

There’s also a suite of other optional extras. The Outdoor package includes mudguards, door sills, side steps, protective door handle covers, and a luggage protection film. The Roof Carrier package offers utility for hauling gear up top. Finally, the Rock Creek Basic Plus pack covers the smaller finishing touches, with floor mats, visors, license plate accessories, and a wheel lock set.

The Multi-bed version of the SUV is exclusively available with the e-Power self-charging hybrid powertrain, combined with a standard e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system.
