• Dacia will host a one-night SUV campout in a Scottish forest.
  • Guests will sleep in Bigsters equipped with the Sleep Pack kit.
  • The event aligns with a rare six-planet formation in the sky.

Looking for an escape from city lights and crowded campsites? Dacia has something different in mind. The brand is transforming a fleet of SUVs into what it’s calling a “Million Star Hotel,” giving UK-based adventurers and amateur astronomers a chance to spend the night under the open sky, with nothing but a thin pane of glass and the galaxy above.

The setup centers on Dacia’s largest model, the Bigster. Stretching 4.57 meters (179.9 inches) in length, the SUV provides the space needed for its factory-designed Sleep Pack, an optional accessory tailored specifically for car camping.

The kit, also compatible with the Duster and Jogger, features a 190 cm (6.2-inch) double mattress that unfolds across the rear cabin, resting above the cargo area and folded back seats. When not in use, the mattress separates and stows into a custom wooden storage box.

Headroom can be a bit tight, but the panoramic sunroof of the Bigster means you’ll be able to see the stars while you’re falling asleep. The wooden base doubles as a small table and includes compartments underneath for storing essentials.

A Campsite Without the Crowds

The main event is scheduled for February 25–26 at Scotland’s Galloway Forest Park, one of the UK’s designated Dark Sky areas. There, participants will camp overnight far from city glare, with a rare celestial alignment overhead.

Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury will all be visible to the naked eye that night, assuming the skies stay clear and cloud cover doesn’t get in the way.

Beyond stargazing, guests can take part in open-fire cooking, kayaking, and fishing. While the Sleep Pack doesn’t include plumbing, Dacia is setting up on-site amenities, including a large communal tent with basic facilities.

If you want to experience Dacia’s Million Star Hotel first-hand, the company is accepting reservations through a dedicated website until January 28. Spaces are limited, which means that bookings will be selected in a draw.

The only eligibility requirements are UK residency and a valid driving license. Each vehicle accommodates two adults, so you can bring a guest, if you don’t mind sharing the mattress.

For Dacia owners who want to turn their SUV into a camper, the Sleep Pack (wooden box and mattress) retails for £1,307 ($1,800). The company also sells blackout blinds for £175 ($235), and a tailgate tent for £350 ($470), with the complete InNature Camping Kit bundle listed for £1,830 ($2,500).
