Those in the market for an ‘entry-level’ Ferrari that they can catch a tan in will soon have an option perfect for them. According to a new report, Maranello plans to launch a droptop version of the Amalfi next month.

News of Ferrari launching an Amalfi Spider shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. After all, its predecessor, the Roma, was sold in both Coupe and Spider configurations. The car before it, the Portofino, was also available in hardtop and convertible guises, albeit (if you recall) with a different solution, so we’re not exactly comparing like with like.

The Supercar Blog notes that, like the Roma, the Amalfi Spider will have a folding fabric roof. By comparison, the older Portofino and California models had heavier folding hardtops. Most of the Amalfi convertible’s design will be identical to the Coupe, although Ferrari will obviously have to make changes to the rear end, eliminating some of the cargo area to make way for the roof’s stow-away space.

 Entry-Level Ferrari Ready To Lose Its Head Soon Enough

From a powertrain standpoint, the Spider should be identical to the Coupe. As such, it will retain Ferrari’s superb 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8, delivering the same 631 hp and 560 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque. The hardtop can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in around 3.3 seconds, but the added weight of the convertible may increase that time to nearer 3.5 seconds. Either way, it’ll still be more than quick enough for the street.

The interior should also go largely unchanged. This means that, unlike models like the 296 GTB and SF90 Stradale that have been criticized for their heavy reliance on touch-capacitive buttons, the Amalfi Spider will actually have plenty of physical controls. These will include proper buttons on the steering wheel, a physical Engine Start/Stop button, and a proper Manettino dial.

US prices for the Ferrari Amalfi Coupe start at a touch over $260,000. The convertible will be slightly more expensive, likely bearing a sticker closer to $270,000.
