- Spy photographers appear to have caught the Cupra Leon VZ TCR.
- It sports an aggressive body kit with a front splitter and sizable wing.
- Car will have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 321 hp.
Last year, Cupra announced plans to offer the most powerful front-wheel-drive Leon ever created. It’s set to arrive late this year and be limited to 499 units.
We haven’t heard much about the model since then, but spy photographers recently caught up with the Leon VZ TCR at the Nürburgring. Spied undisguised, the prototype closely resembles the Leon VZ, but features a front splitter and a sizable rear wing. They’re joined by lightweight wheels that are backed up by a high-performance Akebono braking system with six-piston calipers.

While this appears to be a Leon VZ TCR prototype, it’s missing several previously announced features. Key among them are sportier side skirts, body side graphics, and carbon fiber mirror caps. The car also lacks a copper-colored exhaust system as well as TCR badging.

Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but Cupra has previously said the model will have CUPBucket front seats with four-point harnesses. More notably, there will be removable rear seats, a strut bar, and an integrated net. Buyers will also find a laser-engraved serial number on the door panel.
Under the hood, there’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 321 hp (239 kW / 325 PS) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which will enable the hot hatch to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.6 seconds before hitting an “unrestricted top speed.” Other highlights include adaptive chassis control and an electronically controlled front differential lock.
