• The average vehicle on US roads is now nearly 13 years old today.
  • Ford increasingly sees service departments as a key revenue source.
  • Roughly one in seven service visits now come through mobile teams.

Ford has spent the past few years leading the industry in recalls, often by hundreds of thousands of cars at a time. Now it wants those same owners thinking dealership for everything else, wagering that older cars, factory-trained techs, and a van that comes to you will add up to more service work. Hence a nationwide campaign called “Real Parts. Real Pros. Real Easy,” aimed not at selling cars but at selling service, including the Ford Mobile Service pickup-and-delivery program.

According to the Blue Oval, the average car on US roads is now almost 13 years old, a dramatic change from three decades ago when the figure sat closer to 8 years. As people hold onto their cars longer than ever, the company sees servicing and maintenance as key drivers of revenue.

Ford Mobile Service is one of the most important ways the company aims to keep owners going back to its for their maintenance needs, rather than opting to have cars serviced at third-party mechanics. Approximately one in seven service visits with Ford are now made through the mobile service fleet, often providing basic maintenance needs at an owner’s home or workplace. There is a second benefit too. Every oil change done in a driveway is a service bay left open for the heavier, more complex jobs back at the dealership.

Owners can schedule a visit from Ford Mobile Service through the company’s app. It’s ideal for those with busy schedules who can’t afford to take time off work and need to head to a local Ford dealership and service center.

Maintenance For Issues That Shouldn’t Exist?

The Average US Car Is Almost 13 Years Old, And Ford Wants The Repair Bill

As part of the campaign, Ford has started running a clip across streaming services and social media, and briefly published it on YouTube before mysteriously deleting it.

Those who own a new Ford may be all too familiar with issues, given the company’s undesirable reputation for recalls. Convince those owners that any fault can be fixed quickly and easily at service centers across the country, and they may stop asking why the problems were there in the first place, or whether Ford’s quality control has actually improved as much as the company claims.
