- Both the soft top and the RF will be available with this new color.
- Incorporated within the green paint are blueish metallic flakes.
- This is the very first shade of green that’s been offered for the ND.
Mazda has put something like 80 greens on the Miata across its various generations in the nearly four decades since it launched, yet the current fourth-gen car somehow never got one. That ends now, with a new shade, and it is not some lurid green that leaves people wondering whether you raided Lamborghini’s paint chart.
The new color is called Zinc Green Metallic and according to the car manufacturer, it creates “a strong presence while harmonizing seamlessly with both natural landscapes and urban settings.”

Mazda says the color takes inspiration from the shade of zinc chromate primer used across various industries. Added within the paint are blueish metallic flakes, making it look a little more striking. Frustratingly, it has only released a single image of the MX-5 in this new color, so it’s hard to say how it will look in different lighting.
Both the soft-top MX-5 and the MX-5 RF with its retractable hardtop will be offered with this color. It looks particularly striking when contrasted with simple black wheels, ensuring the paint remains the center of attention.
Mazda has not said whether MX-5 buyers will pay extra for Zinc Green Metallic. Availability will vary by market, though the company is not yet ready to say which markets get it, or when. It has also hinted the shade could spread to other models down the line.
What About The Next MX-5?
While the market for small, lightweight sports cars is shrinking, the current ND MX-5 is expected to stick around until towards the end of the decade. With that being said, Mazda has begun developing its successor and has committed to keeping it light and affordable.
