- The fifth-gen RAV4 is offered with a lift kit, increasing the ride height.
- Toyota RAV4 owners can also opt for flared plastic fenders and bumpers.
- Pre-facelift RAV4 models are also offered with the facelift’s headlights.
While production of the fifth-generation RAV4 ended late last year, Toyota isn’t willing to let it die quietly. Owners in Japan are now being offered the opportunity to have their RAV4s upgraded by Toyota itself, boosting the SUV’s off-roading credentials.
Perhaps the most significant upgrade is on the suspension front. Owners can have their RAV4 fitted with new front and rear shocks and springs, boosting the ride height by 1.9 inches (50 mm) at the front and 1.5 inches (40 mm) at the rear.

Toyota says the lift kit has been developed to retain the same on-road ride quality as the normal suspension parts. Before the new shocks and springs can be fitted, Toyota centers will first need to conduct a pre-inspection of the supplied RAV4. They may also need to fit a new reversing light to the center of the bumper, just in case the extra ride height means the SUV falls foul of local safety standards.
The upgraded suspension package costs 181,566 yen ($1,120), including fitment. An extra 42,570 yen ($260) may be needed if a new reversing light has to be fitted. The kit is available for all Toyota RAV4 models produced between August 2020 and November 2025, including the gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions.
Looks To Match
Toyota has also launched several new black exterior parts for the RAV4, further enhancing its rugged look. These include a new front bumper, fender flares, and wing mirrors with a rough black plastic finish similar to a spray-in bedliner. While we’re not sure how much the new front bumper and mirrors cost, the fender flares are available for 108,020 yen ($670), including installation.
Several other upgrades and accessories are also available for the RAV4 in Japan. For example, pre-facelift models can be refreshed with the facelifted RAV4’s new LED headlights, launched for the 2021 model year. It’s also possible to have the interior USB-A ports swapped out for USB-C outlets, and Toyota can even install a wireless smartphone charger for older models.
