Looking over at eBay’s listings today, we discovered a very rare Alfa Romeo sports coupe up for sale.

The car is a 1973 Alfa Romeo Montreal of which only around 3,900 examples were built over a period of seven years from 1970 to 1977, and none were officially imported to North America as the coupe didn’t meet U.S. and Canadian emission control requirements at the time.

The Italian sports car was designed by the great Marcello Gandini of Bertone fame and was originally presented as a concept at the 1967 Montreal Expo in Canada before making it into production as the Montreal in 1977.

While the study was powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, the production Montreal was fitted with a far more potent 2.6-liter V8 engine with fuel injection sourced from 2.0-litre V8 used in Alfa’s 33 Stradale and Tipo 33 sports prototype racer. The V8 is rated at 200-horsepower and has a redline at 7,000 rpm. A five-speed gearbox drives the rear wheels through a limited slip differential.

The 2+2 coupe we found on eBay has been restored from the ground up and has 102,000 original miles. The seller is located in Alamo, California. The highest bid at the time we wrote this post was US$32,100 but the reserve had not been met.
