Audi and Porsche are preparing their next electrification push, and it’s a big one as a number of upcoming models will ride on the all-new Premium Platform Electric (PPE).

The architecture was “developed in tandem” and Porsche says it has similarities to the MQB and MEB platforms from Volkswagen.  The former architecture underpins more than 32 million vehicles and its flexibility has delivered economies of scale and reduced component costs.

Porsche notes the PPE platform has similar benefits and it will enable them to “launch high-volume models with high technical standards at profit.”  The architecture will also be highly flexible as the company said it offers “lots of leeway when it comes to the wheelbase, track width, and ground clearance, allowing for a variety of performance levels for models with either rear- or all-wheel drive in different segments.”

Porsche is staying tight-lipped on specifics, but noted PPE-based vehicles will have a maximum output of 603 hp (450 kW / 612 PS) and 737+ lb-ft (1,000+ Nm) of torque. The company’s first PPE-based vehicle will be the Macan EV and it will feature 800-volt technology, “powerful” electric motors, and “advanced battery and charge management.”

The automaker says this will enable the crossover to deliver the “level of electric vehicle performance you’d expect of Porsche.”  They went on to say the model has been designed to be the sportiest vehicle in its segment and one that will offer “best-in-class driving performances” as well as “high-power fast charging” and a “range suitable for long-distance travel.”
