• Over 121,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs recalled for second-row headrest issues.
  • Faulty head restraints may fail to meet federal safety height requirements in a crash.
  • Separately, 21 Chrysler Pacifica minivans are affected by a rearview camera glitch.

The current Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L are good, but they’re not perfect. As it turns out, they may also be equipped with second-row head restraints that can’t be correctly locked upright, potentially leading to an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

In response, the automaker has issued a recall to correct the problem. On the same day, FCA US also initiated a separate recall involving the Chrysler Pacifica.

This particular recall covers 43,241 Jeep Grand Cherokee L units built between May 16, 2023, and January 30, 2024, along with 78,157 Grand Cherokee models assembled from May 16, 2023, to May 2, 2024. According to Stellantis, the problem lies in an internal locking mechanism within the second-row head restraints, which may have an “interference condition” that prevents them from staying upright as intended.

Jeep hasn’t specified what this “interference condition” is, but says that due to the fault, the top of the head restraint may be less than 750 mm (29 inches) in height, meaning it does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Dealer Fixes Coming in September

Owners can expect to hear from Jeep about the recall between September 5 and 9. Dealers have been instructed to replace head restraints if necessary. Mopar has been forced to issue its own recall over the fault, impacting a total of 764 head restraints that it has supplied to customers.

Separate Pacifica Recall Involves Rearview Camera Glitch

A second recall affects a small number of 2024–2025 Chrysler Pacifica minivans. Just 21 vehicles built between August 26 and September 9, 2024, are included, all due to a non-compliance issue that continues to surface across the industry.

According to the carmaker, the rearview image may not display when Reverse is selected. Curiously, Chrysler has not explained the cause of the issue. Additionally, the brand has also announced that impacted Pacificas have already been repaired. Between September 19, 2024, and April 22, 2025, those models affected had their infotainment systems replaced.
