• Infiniti could revive Q60 coupe using the Nissan Z’s twin-turbo V6.
  • Renderings show a sleek design with a massive blacked-out grille.
  • The coupe could reuse a heavily updated Q50 sedan platform.

Not long ago, Infiniti looked set to replace the Q50 with an all-electric sedan, marking what seemed like a clean break from the past and a shift toward a more future-focused lineup. In some ways, it was a logical move for a brand searching for renewed relevance, especially as rivals leaned harder into electrification.

But that direction didn’t stick. Late last year, Infiniti confirmed the Q50 would return, not as an EV but as a performance-driven, rear-wheel-drive sedan powered by a combustion engine called the Q50S. With the sedan now back in play, it naturally begs the question: could the Q60 coupe make a comeback as well?

The previous Q60, produced from 2016 to 2022, shared its underpinnings with the Q50. If Infiniti were to reintroduce a stylish two-door coupe, it could base the design on the next-gen Q50.

That said, “next-generation” might be a stretch. Reports suggest the new Q50S will be more of a heavily redesigned version of the outgoing model, akin to what Toyota has done with the Camry or Nissan with the latest Sentra.

Reusing that platform would offer significant cost savings compared to developing a new coupe from scratch. It would also give Infiniti’s designers a well-sorted foundation to build from, potentially speeding up development and maintaining brand consistency.

What Might It Look Like?

Ready to speculate on what a modern Q60S might resemble, Nikita Chuyko from Kolesa has released a set of sharp-looking renderings. The outgoing Q60 was already a sleek machine, and these illustrations imagine a third-generation version that retains the sculpted silhouette, with clean, flowing lines down the flanks. What’s different are the front and rear treatments.

Dominating the front end is a massive blacked-out grille that’d no doubt give the car plenty of presence on the road. It also features massive black air intakes on either side of the bumper, as well as angular headlights with LEDs that span the top of the grille.

The rear of the car is also quite intriguing. While the rear quarter panels and windows are similar to the old Q60, the LED taillights are all-new. It has also been showcased with a blacked-out rear bumper and twin tailpipes, reminiscent of those found on the Nissan Z.

Powertrain Possibilities

Infiniti reportedly offered a sneak peek of the upcoming Q50S at a dealer conference in Las Vegas last year. According to early details, it’s expected to use the same twin-turbocharged V6 found in the Nissan Z, delivering 400 horsepower.

That alone puts it in solid performance territory, but what really stands out is the possibility of a manual gearbox paired with rear-wheel drive. If those features make production, it could become one of the more engaging sedans on the market to actually drive.
