- The Junior arrives in Mexico with a hybrid 1.2-liter turbo.
- Prices are still unannounced, but reservations are open.
- Mexican models include Sabelt sports seats as standard.
Alfa Romeo’s newest and smallest SUV has just landed in North America, and even though the Italian brand could benefit from selling it in the United States, it won’t. Instead, the new Junior is available only in Mexico, bringing classic Italian flair to an affordable, accessible package.
Like in other markets, the Junior arrives with a hybrid powertrain. It pairs a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with a small electric motor, delivering a combined 145 hp in local specification. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission comes standard and sends power to the front wheels.
Review: The Junior Is Everything Alfa Romeo Needed And Nothing Alfisti Wanted
Alfa Romeo is keeping quiet on several key details about the Mexico-market model. What is confirmed is that it will be offered in two versions, both using the same 1.2-liter turbo hybrid powertrain paired with the six-speed DCT.
Inside, Alfa Romeo has confirmed a few highlights. Among them are a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and Sabelt front sports seats.
“Alfa Romeo Junior is part of the brand’s new strategy in Mexico, where enthusiasts of the Italian firm will find authentic works of art in motion, a solid network of distributors, as well as the best after-sales program for Premium brands in the country,” commercial vice president of Stellantis Mexico, Jesús Rodríguez, said.
There is still no word on how much the new Junior will cost buyers in Mexico, although that has not stopped Alfa Romeo from opening reservations for its smallest and newest model.
We had the chance to drive the hybrid version of the Junior in Europe last year. It proved nimble and comfortable, even if outright pace is not its strongest suit. The cabin is also refreshingly well judged, especially compared with some newer SUVs from China that lean a little too heavily on tablet-style infotainment and ultra-minimalist interiors.
