• Caterham debuts Miami Special Edition ahead of the Grand Prix.
  • The track-only special features a bespoke Aqua/Pink livery.
  • Production is limited to 12 units, with 10 reserved for the US.

Caterham picks its moments, and a Miami Grand Prix weekend qualifies as one. The British marque has revealed a new special edition of the Seven timed to the race, a track-only build capped at 12 units globally. Ten of those are bound for the United States.

The Seven Miami Special Edition is painted in a bespoke Aqua shade with Vibrant Pink and White stripes adding a vintage flair. If the vibrant colors weren’t enough, the Miami script on the profile and the tail makes sure everyone gets the message.

The model is based on the Seven R and comes fitted with a 620 Style nosecone featuring a white 7 on the grille. It also has the Clear Lens Pack, high-intensity headlights, a full windscreen, and rides on 13-inch Apollo alloy wheels finished in black with a polished tip.

The exposed two-seater cabin features a suede Momo quick-release steering wheel, carbon vinyl tunnel top and boot cover, and Miami embroidery on the headrests. Safety is key on track days, so Caterham installed a roll cage and a fire extinguisher system.

The exclusivity of the special edition is baked in with two separate plaques. One on the dashboard denotes the individual production number, while a second plate in the engine bay bears the signatures of the two British craftsmen who hand-assembled the vehicle in Kent, UK.

Enough Power To Put A Smile On Your Face

Under the long bonnet sits a Ford-sourced, naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Duratec, good for 210 hp (157 kW / 213 PS) and 150 lb-ft (203 Nm). In isolation, those figures look almost laughable in an era of swollen EV outputs. In a Seven, they are not. It weighs just 1,235 lbs (560 kg), roughly half a base Mazda Miata at 2,366 lbs (1,073 kg). The result is a power-to-weight ratio of 375 hp per tonne.

Power is sent to the rear wheels exclusively via a five-speed manual gearbox, aided by sequential shift lights. Performance is identical to the Seven R with a 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 136 mph (219 km/h).

The Seven Miami Special Edition will make its first public outing on May 1st at Race Street in the West Campus of the Miami International Autodrome ahead of the race weekend. As we mentioned earlier, this particular model is not street legal, so owners can only enjoy it on the track.

The launch coincides with the brand’s aggressive expansion in the United States. Caterham hasn’t released pricing, but given the rarity of the special edition, expect a premium over the $51,995 starting price of the standard Seven R, or close to double the price of a Miata
