• Caterham is building 100 examples of its special Nurburgring Edition.
  • The car includes distinctive red accents and pays tribute to the circuit.
  • In 2002, a Caterham Seven finished 11th at the Nurburgring 24 Hours.

Just a couple of weeks after Caterham presented a special version of the Seven to celebrate the Miami Grand Prix, the small automaker has also revealed a limited-run model celebrating the Nurburgring, presented on the eve of the grueling 24-hour race at the world’s most challenging circuit.

Caterham will build just 100 examples of the Nurburgring Edition, available on either the Seven 340R or the Seven 420R. Each car will be equipped with a bespoke Bilstein suspension, specifically developed for the German circuit, yet suitable for street use.

Distinctive Nurburgring branding has also been added to the exterior of the car, along with a bright red roll bar and a distinctive front grille. Buyers will be able to order the model in either Verkehrsrot (Traffic Red), Achatgrau (Agate Grey), or Basaltgrau (Basalt Grey), or, should they prefer, a custom color.

Some minor tweaks have also been made to the car’s cabin, with Nurburgring embroidery on the leather seats, red stitching, sequential shift lights, four-point racing harnesses, and several carbon-fiber parts.

The 2.0-liter Ford Duratec four-cylinder hasn’t been changed, meaning it continues to deliver 210 hp at 7,600 rpm and 150 lb-ft (203 Nm) of torque at 6,300 rpm. The car weighs just 1,234 lbs (560 kg) and can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 3.8 seconds before powering through to 136 mph (219 km/h).

Now, you may be asking yourself, why has Caterham built a car to celebrate the Nurburgring? Well, in addition to the famous track celebrating its 100th anniversary next year, a Caterham actually competed in the Nurburgring 24 Hours back in 2002. Included among the four drivers used by the team was auto scribe Chris Harris, and not only did the car win its class by more than 10 laps, but it also finished 11th overall, an impressive result given its relative lack of power.

Pricing for the Caterham Seven Nurburgring Edition will start at £48,995 ($65,200).
