The book of Hyundai’s Genesis will add a new chapter at next week’s New York Auto Show with a four-door sports sedan study that may preview the brand’s upcoming BMW 3-Series competitor.

It’s named the New York Concept, and according to a short and rather vague statement from Genesis, it “hints to the athletic elegance of the four-door sports sedan, expressing the design direction that will distinguish forthcoming Genesis products”.

Manfred Fitzgerald, head of Genesis brand, added: “The New York Concept is a progressive concept car that showcases the design quality of the brand. With its expressive volumes and refined design, the New York Concept truly embodies the athletic elegance, which characterizes Genesis products.”

The Hyundai group’s newly born luxury brand has already confirmed plans to add a rear-wheel drive BMW 3-series rival called the G70 in 2017, so it makes perfect sense for the Koreans to tease the car – directly or indirectly – at the Big Apple this year.

Genesis’ current offerings include the G80 and G90 premium sedans, previously known as the Hyundai Equus and Genesis respectively. At least two crossovers and a coupe will join the range in the coming years.
