Prior to the 24 Hours of Le Mans kicking off for another year, Ford Performance driver Ken Block had the chance to experience the 2017 Ford GT on the famed Circuit de la Sarthe where the endurance race is held.

For the rather special opportunity, the internet’s favorite drifter and Gymkhana artist received the keys to a bright yellow GT with black racing stripes and looked right at home fully-kitted out with his Monster Energy racing suit.

Reviews of the latest-generation GT have indicated that it is a race car first and a street car second. This is predominantly because it was initially developed to compete in the GTE class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (which it won last year) and then spun off into a road car, which 1,000 lucky Ford enthusiasts will have the chance to own. Consequently, it is right at home on the French racetrack.

The engine powering the GT is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 and while to the uninitiated that seems like the same engine as the Ford F-150 Raptor, the GT’s power unit is bespoke and shares many of its components with the engine of the endurance racer.
