Carscoop’s spy photographers have snapped some of the first images of the sportiest edition yet of the Mini Countryman bearing the John Cooper Works logo. The…high-hoon version of Mini’s urban crossover model will come with all the usual styling upgrades and performance modifications we’re used to seeing in the other JCW models.

First and foremost, the Countryman JCW will get a juiced up version of the Cooper S’ 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbo engine. Being that the Countryman is much heavier than the other Mini JCW variants, engineers may further hone the four-cylinder powerplant to deliver more than 211-ponies it normally produces, possibly approaching the 230HP mark.

The Countryman is expected to be offered either optionally or as standard with Mini’s All4 all-wheel drive system that under normal circumstance, delivers 50% of the engine’s power to each axle, but can send up to 100% of output towards the rear wheels under extreme conditions.

A beefier brake package and uprated suspension bits will also be on offer while the Countryman JCW will be distinguished on the outside by a new aero kit comprising of new front and rear bumpers, side skirts with vents, a different front grille and bespoke alloy wheels.
