Nissan Electrifies the NV200 for the 2012 Detroit Motor Show [Video]

A pure electric study of the NV200 is Nissan’s second world premiere at the 2012 North American Auto Show in Detroit after the production ready Pathfinder SUV Concept.

And like the Pathfinder, the e-NV200 Concept previews a near-future production version of a full electric vehicle designed for both passenger and commercial use.

The e-NV200 Concept shares its major drivetrain components with the LEAF hatchack. Power comes via an 80kW (107.2HP) synchronous motor that generates 207 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque with a lithium-ion battery composed of 48 compact modules providing the necessary electric energy.

Nissan also made some styling changes to the e-NV200, such as the new front fascia and bumper assembly that were inspired by the LEAF, the new tail lamps and rear bumper that sports a diffuser to improve aerodynamics.

As for the interior, it features blue colored accents along with a revamped instrument cluster and a large tablet-like display on the center console.

“With its ‘no gas, no tailpipe, no emissions’ powertrain, the Nissan e-NV200 Concept combines a quiet, comfortable driving experience with a large, highly versatile, functional interior space within a compact overall body length,” said Hideto Murakami, corporate vice president, Nissan.

“A vehicle like the Nissan e-NV200 Concept would energise the current compact van market in more ways than one – helping improve the quality of urban life and providing a smart financial investment for large and small businesses alike,” he added.
