Following the recent launch of the new Beetle in the UK with a 1.2-liter TFSI 104HP / 105PS linked to a seven-speed DSG transmission and a 1.4-litre 158HP / 160PS TSI to a six-speed manual gearbox, Volkswagen is enhancing the retro-flavored model’s lineup with two new engines.

The new powerplants are a 2.0-liter TDI turbo diesel producing 138-horses (140PS) and a range-topping 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged petrol rated at 197hp (200PS), both available with a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed dual clutch DSG gearboxes.

With the 2.0-liter TSI, the Beetle goes from zero to 62 mph (100km/h) in 7.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 139 mph (224 km/h), while the TDI takes 9.5 seconds for the standard sprint and can reach 123 mph (198 km/h).

The petrol model returns a combined fuel economy of 38.2mpg UK with CO2 emissions of 172g/km, and the diesel, 57.6 mpg UK and 129 g/km.

The Beetle 2.0 TDI comes in either mid-level Design or top-line Sport trim with prices starting from £20,085, while the 2.0-litre TSI 200 PS model is available in Sport or special-edition Turbo Black and Turbo Silver specification, starting from £22,295.

It’s worth noting that the 2.0-liter TSI models come equipped with additional features unique to this version including a four-link rear suspension, twin chromed exhaust pipes, red brake calipers and a body-coloured rear diffuser.
