Nissan has just confirmed the world premiere of a new concept crossover named the Resonance for the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 15.

Along with a single, darkened rendering, Nissan issued the following statement about the Resonance study:

“The Resonance is the latest in a series of envelope-pushing crossover designs from Nissan, fusing bold, breakthrough styling with hybrid-electric powertrain technology.”

While Nissan won’t go into details yet, it looks like the Resonance likely hints at the styling direction for the next generation Murano, expected to be introduced in 2014.

As for its hybrid powertrain, it is possible that it is equipped with Nissan’s new supercharged 2.5-liter gasoline engine mated to a compact CVT package that incorporates a single motor and two clutches plus a lithium-ion battery.
