From a driver’s perspective, the most interesting models in Mercedes-Benz’s vast lineup are those with the AMG badge – not the AMG Sport trim moniker, but the real AMGs, and this holds true for the brand-new S63 AMG unveiled on Wednesday.

This sported up limousine combines the latest developments in comfort and safety features with a more engaging chassis setup and a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine pumping out 577hp (585PS) at 5,500 rpm and 900 Nm (663 lb-ft) at 2,250-3,750 rpm.

Strangely enough, (and for the time being, at least) the U.S. will only be getting the all-wheel drive 4MATIC model in which 33 percent of torque goes to the front axle and 67 percent is sent to the rear axle, while in other parts of the world, Mercedes will also offer a regular rear-wheel drive version.

Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) mph takes 4.0 seconds (0-60mph in 3.9 sec) for the 4MATIC and 4.4 seconds for the RWD regular and long-wheelbase models, while top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250km/h).

The S63 AMG will make its first public appearance in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. U.S. sales will begin in November.
