We’ve heard it before and now we’re hearing it again: Porsche is looking to build its own Maserati Ghibli, Jaguar XF and BMW 5-Series rival that would sit beneath the Panamera in their automobile range. The information seems credible this time, though, as it comes from the brand’s CEO, Matthias Müller.

The top official was quoted by Autocar magazine as saying the following: “Speaking very frankly, I can say this is one of many ideas we have, to build a car below Panamera… But it would be a difficult decision, because Porsche has just taken a huge step getting into the Macan market — not just developing the car but doubling the factory capacity, including the body shop and paint shop. It has been a huge effort for the whole company.”

He added the classic statement “You’ll have to wait and see,” concluding “every dollar we hold, we can spend only once. We can realise that idea, or another, or a third or fourth. We have many ideas.”

Naturally, since this is such an obvious direction for them to proceed towards (making a sub-Panamera model), it has been speculated before, some two years ago. The source report suggests that if it does come to fruition, it could use the next-gen MSB platform planned to be used in future Bentleys and other high-end models from within the group.
