With much better structural rigidity, a bit less weight and better aerodynamic properties than the convertible, the F-Type coupe is arguably the Jaguar sports car that we’ve actually been waiting for.

Reviews of the convertible praised it for being pretty good to drive for a drop-top of its kind, for sounding and looking excellent whichever version you went for and for staying true (somewhat) to the heritage of its illustrious ancestor, the E-Type.

Still a few months away from arriving in showrooms, the new hardtop variant has just been tested by Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe and first impressions are really good. Do note, though, that the car tested in the video below is a pre-production model, and even so, it’s noticeably better to drive than the ragtop. Sutcliffe is keen to point out that Jaguar’s engineers say its body is actually 80 percent stiffer; that seems like a huge amount…

Judging by the in-car footage, it seems eager to wag its rear end (even in 4th gear) but can also do point and squirt really well too. According to this review, the only thing that’s really not excellent about the F-Type coupe is the gear-changes. They’re on par with the convertible, but that apparently only brings it into a sub-category of being above average.
