It’s been out there for quite some time but, for some reason, Motor Trend’s Ignition hadn’t laid its hands on the new, 991-based Porsche 911 GT3. Until now, that is.

Carlos Lago drove the new GT3 on the road and, like all before him, was impressed by its poise and pace so much that it declared it one of the best supercars currently available, “even with ‘just’ 475hp”. Guess that’s enough for road use, anyway…

Then racer Randy Pobst took it around the Willow Springs circuit – and he came to the same conclusion. The new GT3 has a terrific front end, its chassis is perfectly shorted out and its PDK dual-clutch transmission is ultra-fast in changing gears.

Purists may cry all they want about the missing third pedal and all the tech features that Porsche has put on the GT3 but, at the end of the day, it’s what it does on the road (and, in this case, the track) that matters, as you can see for yourselves in the video that follows.
