Renault is democratizing the hot hatch with the new GT220 performance package offered for the entire Mégane lineup in the UK.

Available as a Hatch, Coupé or Sport Tourer, the GT220 kit brings a 220PS (217hp) Renaultsport 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine, a Renaultsport-engineered chassis and 18-inch “Serdard” alloy wheels, among other features.

Based on the Megane GT Line TomTom, the GT220 delivers up to twice as much horsepower and promises better driving characteristics thanks to stiffer springs and dampers and larger front brake discs from Renaultsport. The 18-inch alloy wheels are shod with 225/40R18 Dunlop Sport Maxx TT tyres.

The 2.0-liter 16-valve turbocharged engine produces 220PS at 4,750 rpm and 340Nm (251lb-ft) at 2,400 rpm. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, it allows the Mégane GT220 to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.6 seconds and to reach a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h). Fuel consumption isn’t bad either, as the Mégane GT220 officially returns 38.7 mpg UK (32.2 mpg US or 7.3 l/100 km) on the combined test cycle and emits 169 g/km of CO2.

The chassis on the GT220 includes specific front and rear dampers that use the calibration and valving based on those used on the Mégane RS. The car also uses the same rear bump stops and the braking system is upgraded compared to lesser Méganes, featuring ventilated 320mm front discs (up from 280mm on GT Line) and 260mm solid rear brake discs.

Styling-wise the Renault Mégane GT220 gets a special GT bumper design, with a reshaped central air intake and an integral gloss black cross bar that carries the number plate. At the rear, the bumper has a lower section finished in body color, which integrates an anthracite-colored aerodynamic diffuser. The bespoke Malta Blue paintwork with anthracite grey and polished detailing is optional.

Inside, GT220 models get sports seats, analogue dials and aluminum pedals, while the door handle pulls, outer air vent surrounds and dashboard sport a polished carbon finish. Prices start from £23,245 for the Hatch, £24,230 for the Coupé and £24,245 for the Sport Tourer.
