Ford has finally unveiled the all-new Galaxy seven-seat MPV, the more practical version of the S-MAX.

The new Galaxy shares the same platform with the S-MAX and that is visible from a design point of view as well. The two MPVs look similar, but in the case of the Galaxy the emphasis on practicality is more obvious, with the body adopting a squarer shape.

The all-new Galaxy offers seven full-size seats and a segment-first feature that raises third-row seats at the push of a button. Ford says the features allows users to easily switch between seating or load space.

Furthermore, a control panel in the rear luggage compartment enables all five second- and third-row seats to be folded flat at the push of a button. The flat floor makes it easier to load large items, and underneath it the new Cargo Management System offers 20 liters of hidden storage.

Ford says second- and third-row passengers benefit from up to 10mm more headroom than in the outgoing Galaxy, while the third-row seat offers more space than key competitors, with up to 40mm more headroom. Third-row occupants also have their own armrest storage bins and cup-holders.

The Galaxy uses Ford’s integral link rear suspension configuration which is said to improve comfort while retaining lateral stiffness for enhanced steering and handling. Dampers and springs are tuned specifically for Galaxy, which continues to offer Continuous Control Damping which allows the driver to alter chassis settings with “comfort,” “normal” and “sport” modes. The Galaxy also gets the Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS).

Customers can choose between six engines: four diesels and two petrol units. The diesel lineup is spearheaded by the new 2.0-liter TDCi Bi-turbo engine producing 210PS and 450Nm of torque from 2,000rpm. The 2.0-liter unit is also offered in a single variable geometry turbocharger configuration with 120PS, 150PS and 180PS.

Petrol engines include the 1.5-liter EcoBoost with 160PS and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost with 240PS. All engines comply with the Euro 6 emissions standards and are equipped with Smart Regenerative Charging, Auto-Start-Stop and Active Grille Shutter.

The new Galaxy is offered with a long list of safety assist systems such as Curve Control and Roll Stability Control, Intelligent Speed Limiter, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Glare-Free Highbeam technology, Ford Adaptive Steering and more. The MPV also gets the latest Sync 2 infotainment system with Voice Control.
