Every car has its story but few cars reach the epic levels of old-time endurance racers, like this Jaguar C-Type.
Jaguar made only three C-Type Lightweights as an answer to the then fresh Mercedes 300SL in order to defend their dominance in the most prestigious race of the era, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This particular car finished fourth overall at the 1953 race and is heading to an auction sale at RM Sotheby’s Monterey event in August.
The Jaguar C-Type Lightweight featured four hydraulic disc brakes all-around and a hand-made aluminum body for lightness, making it one of the most technologically advanced racing cars of its era. Its racing history only adds to what it is an extraordinary vehicle.
As David Swig, RM Sotheby car specialist says “No less than five Le Mans-winning drivers of this period have sat behind the wheel of this car which almost gives you goosebumps.”
