Volkswagen plans to give the Segway a run for its money.

The German giant builds everything from cars to trucks and in its vast portfolio we can find manufacturers like Audi, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bentley, Ducati, Scania, MAN and Bugatti.

Even so, there was no word of an electric scooter. Until now…

We all know how important and indispensable an EV surfer can be to an automobile company and that’s why Martin Winterkorn – Volkswagen CEO – revealed in an interview with German newspaper “Bild” that Volkswagen is looking forward to launch such a vehicle by the second half of 2016.

It will serve as a “last-mile surfer” to travel short distances from the parking lot to the actual destination point or a low millage commuter. It will be fold-able so it would fit and be re-charged in the trunk of an average Volkswagen, it will weigh approximately 24 pounds (10 Kg) and it will have an electric range of 12.4 miles (20 Kilometers). All this for less than 1000 dollars.
