There’s no secret that the former Top Gear crew struck an amazing deal with Amazon, and producer Andy Wilman revealed some spicy insights about the future show and about the agreement with the electronic commerce company.

Speaking to Broadcast Magazine, the producer stated that Amazon’s was the “strongest and most intelligent offer”.

And by intelligent he actually meant… “prosperous”, as he continued: “Money, freedom and a love of quality. Those three things are what was attractive.”

That said, Wilman was always the outspoken type and that’s why Top Gear worked. Granted, the other three blokes had something to do with it too, but it was the show’s straightforwardness that made it big. Sure, that got them into trouble, very often, I might say, but all of a sudden not every subject had to be serious or treated with kid gloves, or even respect.

Anyway, Wilman continued stating that the new show has been backed by a “really good budged” and that: “Everyone we have talked to has said to us: ‘They leave you alone to make your show.’ That’s a big one for us – we don’t like interference, we don’t need to be policed.”

As for the show itself, according to the producer, it will include “lots of newness”, but will still be reminiscent of the format that propelled them to international recognition

“But there will be a new look, new elements, new home. We’ve been so busy doing the bloody deal … that [the development] process now begins in earnest,” said Andy Wilman.

Moreover, the producer admitted that there had been “very early chats” with British broadcaster ITV, but a contractual clause had stopped them from creating a motoring series on a terrestrial rival for two years. CLARKSOON!
