There’s no reason for Hyundai to parade a camouflaged version of the new Genesis since it’s only been around for a year, so we’re guessing this one could be a prototype carrying out engine testing.

The unit that’s powering it sounds turbocharged, and if you judge by the pronounced clattering at 0:42 în the video below, you could even say it might be a diesel. However, modern direct-injection petrol engines can exhibit diesel-like noises at idle, so we won’t make any definitive statements here.

The prototype spotted by YouTuber cvdzijden (who almost got hit by the hasty, and perhaps, annoyed driver) could be hiding a new engine for Europe, like a 2.0-liter turbo petrol to rival the BMW 528i  (or 520i with an engine they already have?) but it could also be the rumored replacement for the current naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter, Hyundai’s new 3.3-liter turbo.

The video is wrongly marked as showing the next-gen Equus – it’s clearly the Genesis and you can easily spot it in the shape of the rear windows.
