Porsche has announced that Oliver Blume is appointed the Chairman of Executive Board as of October 1.

Blume succeeds Matthias Müller who took over Winterkorn’s position as the VW CEO amid the Dieselgate scandal. The 47-year old manager has been a member of Porsche’s Executive Board responsible for Production and Logistics since the beginning of 2013.

“He has the right drive technology in him, and he is a Porsche person through and through,” Uwe Hück, Chairman of the Group Works Council of Porsche said. “He has a big heart and he is one of us. And I think that appointing a Production person to the top position is a strong statement.”

Matthias Muller was appointed Chairman of VW after the resignation of Martin Winterkorn when the Dieselgate scandal went public. The German company is under a big management reshuffling after their admission of cheating the US emission tests with some of their diesel models, while prosecutors in Braunschweig, Germany have already opened a criminal probe into Martin Winterkorn.

Porsche is currently investing over 1.1 billion € in its current production sites over the next five years for a new engine plant and a new body manufacturing plant among others with Blume himself overseeing the preliminary groundwork for the new investments. “We have found the best possible successor for Matthias Müller considering his exceptionally high professional competence and pronounced teamwork skills,” said Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
