Toyota has applied some updates to the C-HR Concept, which previews a mass-market version in the “not-so-distant future.”

On display at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the compact hybrid crossover has shifted from a three-door to a five-door format in order to gain in practicality. In addition, the roof color scheme has been changed from a two-tone (blue and black) to a uniform glossy black color scheme. Also changed are the headlights, which look more production-ready now.

Toyota says the C-HR Concept is based on Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), an integrated development program for vehicle platforms and powertrain components. TNGA will enable Toyota to create vehicles with improved chassis rigidity, handling stability, and comfort.

Toyota aims to give the concept an engine with thermal efficiency of over 40 percent, as well as further improving fuel efficiency by making the hybrid system―including the motor and battery―smaller and more lightweight. No technical details were released, but the automaker said a production-ready model may be shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.
