Fuel Cell Toyota Mirai Gets Delivered To Its First German Customer

After promoting hydrogen technology via the Hamburg Hydrogen Society for over 27 years, Nicholas Schües took delivery of his brand-new Toyota Mirai, making his dream a reality.

“Fuel cell vehicles are the future: they are free of harmful exhausts and convenient for everyday use, providing ranges of 500 km and more as opposed to pure electric cars,” said Mr. Schües. “When Toyota introduced the Mirai, I did not think twice – this is the car of the future.”

Mr. Schües, longstanding chairman of the Hamburg Hydrogen Society received the keys from Masahisa Nagata, Executive Vice of President Research and Development at Toyota Motor Europe at the handover ceremony that took place in the Innovation Campus of Hamburg’s Chamber of Commerce.

“Toyota is convinced that many partners are needed on the way towards a sustainable, hydrogen-based society. Mr. Schües is one of those long-term partners who have accompanied us on this common path for decades,” said Mr. Nagata. “For this reason, I am particularly pleased to be able to hand the first Mirai in Germany to Mr Schües in person.”

With a driving range of up to 502km on a single tank of hydrogen, the Toyota Mirai emits nothing but vapour out of its exhaust, offering a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 178km/h (110mph).

Hamburg is the city with the the world’s largest fuel cell bus fleet, having already four hydrogen fueling stations and another one coming up in early 2016.
