Mercedes-Benz has released full technical specifications on the updated SL, which brings more power on the entry-level SL 400, an upgraded exterior and new features inside.

The engine lineup includes four units starting with the SL 400 and its 3.0-liter V6, which is 35PS (35hp) and 20Nm (15lb-ft) more powerful than before, at 367PS (362hp) and 500Nm (369lb-ft) of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration takes 4.9sec, three-tenths-of-a-second faster. Novelties also include a new nine-speed auto, offered as standard on the SL 400 and SL 500, while the SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG come just as before, with a seven-speed auto.

The exterior design of the roadster brings a new grille, with a diamond-look, extending downwards and echoing the 300 SL. The hood and the bumper were redesigned too, while the DLRs were moved to the LED headlights, which were inspired by the new S-Class.

The rear end of the “new” SL received new tail-lamp graphics in design, along with a redesigned apron for the AMG models. Two fresh new colors were added to the lineup called the Designo Selenite Grey Magno and the Brilliant Blue, joined by a new range of alloy wheel options.

In the cabin, the analog clock was kept on top of the dash, but this is an optional extra. Selectable ambient lighting and a range of colored leather and trim finishes, including the new Saddle Brown in combination with Nappa leather and Exclusive Nappa leather, are also mentioned by the carmaker, along with the new flat-bottomed steering wheel. There is also Smartphone Integration, with Apple CarPlay, and a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system, both coming at an extra cost.

Mercedes offers the auto emergency braking as standard on all SL versions, while the Driving Assistance Package with cruise control and active steering is optional. The Active Body Control with curve tilting is optional too and the company also added continuously variable dampers and a more aggressive Sport+ mode. Optional extras also include the Magic Sky Control roof, which can change from dark to transparent. Speaking about the roof, the facelifted roadster now adds a new automatic boot separator, moving up or down hands-free, for increased capacity with the roof down.

The world premiere of the 2016 SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG will be made at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in a few hours. Market launch will begin in April, but no pricing has been announced yet.
