Launched in 2003 and co-developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a unique car in the history of automobiles.

Not only was it created by two leading performance car firms but it competed at the upper-echelon of the supercar industry and rivalled the Ferrari Enzo and Porsche Carrera GT.

While both the Enzo and Carrera GT utilised high-revving naturally-aspirated engines which were mid-mounted, the SLR McLaren took a different approach to its performance. Most notably, it has a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 engine at the front and driving the rear-wheels. It is also significantly heavier than the Enzo and Carrera GT and while offering similar straight-line acceleration, was far more focused on long-distance cruising than racetrack driving.

The engine of the ‘standard’ SLR McLaren pumped out 617 hp at 6500 rpm and 580 lb-ft of torque between 3250 and 5000 rpm. While those figures are still quite impressive some 12 years later, RENNtech recently took it upon itself to upgrade a particularly stunning SLR McLaren painted in silver.

In order to lift power to 755 hp and torque to 735 lb-ft, RENNtech has installed a custom ECU, new intercooler kit, enlarged pulley, an upgraded transmission, limited slip differential as well as stainless steel headers. This modifications don’t only increase the vehicle’s performance but makes it sound even more brutal, particularly when it lights up the fat rear tires!
