Ferrari 288 GTO Could Fetch $2.8 Million At Auction

A stunning example of Ferrari’s first halo supercar, the 288 GTO, is set to be sold by RM Sotheby’s at its upcoming Arizona auction.

Predicted to sell for between $2.4 million and $2.8 million, the 1985 288 GTO in question is Ferrari Classiche certified and has less than 15,000 km on the clock.

Moreover, it left the factory with both air conditioning and power windows, two features generally not found on stock 288 GTO’s.

It was sold new in Los Angeles and remained with its first owner for the better part of a decade. It then passed through two other owners until 1999 and, since then, has been owned by three different people with the current owner purchasing it in 2011.

Chassis number 58335 was featured on the cover of an issue of Automobile magazine, featured on Playboy and has been involved in a number of illustrious events. At the Ferrari Concours d’Elegance in 1994, it came second in class and it won its class at the FCA Annual Meet in 1989.

Despite initially being created for Group B rallying before the sport was scrapped, the 288 GTO has cemented itself as one of the best Ferrari models ever produced.
