VW Planning Seven-Seat And Coupe Tiguan Variants

Volkswagen is preparing a number of new Tiguan variants following the arrival of the latest-generation model.

Auto Express has learned from the company’s compact cars boss Dr Jochen Bohle that a new family of Tiguan-based models are on the cards, including a large seven-seat derivative as well as a five-door coupe envisioned to rival the Range Rover Evoque.

According to Bohle, “We have plans for a whole Tiguan family over the next two to three years. It is almost like a brand in itself, Tiguan, and our product and sales teams believe it will support more than one car.”

Volkswagen will be able to offer a number of Tiguan models thanks to its versatile MQB chassis underpinnings already found in modified form beneath the skin of the Volkswagen Golf and Skoda Octavia.

The first of these new cars will be a seven-seater, likely dubbed the Tiguan XL and with a wheelbase stretched by 110 mm. It’ll also include a wider track to increase cabin space further and come standard with all-wheel drive.

As for the five-door coupe, Bohle confirmed that it’s already been designed and is “looking fantastic”. The British publication says that its wheelbase will be the same as the standard Tiguan and be more catered to road use than off-road applications.
