Some might call it hypercar heaven while others would probably look at it for a few seconds over their shoulders.

No matter what side of the fence one stands, the new Chiron is a marvelous piece of engineering capable of stunning performance, and with some of its good looks borrowed from the Vision Gran Turismo Concept, it does look the part, too.

The latest example to be unloaded from a trailer touched the pavement on Monaco’s streets after riding for a few miles underneath its predecessor, a Veyron. It’s the new kid on the block in a city that has its fair share of exotic machines and where it will feel right at home.

Bugatti will assemble just 500 units of the Chiron and most of them have been already spoken for at $2.6 million a pop. The 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 of the Veyron upgraded to 1,500 HP and 1,600 Nm (1,180 pound-feet) of torque, sent to all four corners through what the company claims is “the largest, highest-performance clutch” ever fitted in a passenger car.
