After the state of Hawaii sued Takata Motor Corp, a Japanese woman decided to take the problem into her own hands and performed a similar action against the parts supplier and Nissan.

The woman claims to have sustained injuries to her wrist and head after an accident last October, when the front passenger airbag in her 2006 Nissan X-Trail deployed, spreading shrapnel into the cabin, AutoNews writes, quoting NHK national television.

Aware of the undergoing Takata airbag recall, her husband took the SUV into a local Nissan dealer months before, to have the airbag inflator replaced, but the repair was delayed due to lack of parts. A month later, the automaker admitted that the X-Trail was brought in for inspection, but stated that the personnel didn’t find any moisture leaks.

While Takata was not available for comment, Nissan wrote: “We are cooperating with the investigation. However, as it is a matter under investigation, we declined to comment further.” This is the first lawsuit filed against a car manufacturer and the Takata Motor Corp. in the Land of the Rising Sun.
