Security camera footage has emerged showing numerous cars going airborne after a road buckled in Little Canada, Minnesota due to extreme heat last month.

The incredible scenes were captured by a camera from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and show just how brutal the bump which opened up in the road was. It wasn’t simply a small hump which might occur due to the roots of a nearby tree but instead so massive that some vehicles flew multiple car lengths after hitting it at highway speed.

Many drivers were completely oblivious of the bump when approaching it but after a little while, cars started to slow down for the buckle in the road, treating it like you would a harsh speed bump at a busy parking lot.

Before any more carnage was caused, a police cruiser arrived on the scene to block off the lane.

If we had one of the cars that flew through the air, we’d certainly want some compensation for the destroyed suspension…
