Last month proved to be a very good one for both the Ford Fusion Energi as well as the Hybrid, with retail sales going up by 39% in LA for the former and 35% for the latter.

Overall, the Fusion represents Ford’s second-best-selling car in Los Angeles (and overall in North America), trailing only the F-Series truck. Furthermore, the Fusion is also the second-best-selling vehicle to millennial buyers in the automaker’s overall car lineup.

According to Ford, the reason why sales for Hybrid & Energi models have gone up is because consumers are looking for efficient yet fun to drive hybrid & PHEV vehicles.

“This significant growth for Ford’s midsize sedan should not be underestimated as Los Angeles is the largest car market in the United States,” said Wade Jackson, Ford Fusion marketing manager. “The spike in Fusion Hybrid and Energi sales is a testament to Ford’s advanced engineering team developing fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive electric vehicles offering customers the widest range of choice in the segment.”

As per EPA estimates, the 2017 Fusion Energi is capable of traveling 610 miles (981 km) on a full tank of gas and battery charge.

One extremely eye-catching comparison points to how back in 2011, Fusion Hybrid sales represented just 10% of all new Fusion retail registration in Los Angeles, whereas through May 2016, Fusion Hybrid and Energi PHEV represent 42% of all new Fusion retail registrations for the same area.

In addition, Fusion sales among women are up 20% in the state of California through May, compared to the same period of last year.
